Sonny Starr was raised in the early 1960s in the little Northwest town of Sumner Washington. His father "George" worked as an inspector at Boeing. Sonny was the 2nd of three children. Sonny , his sister "Chrisandra " and their parents picked up and moved south to Winston Oregon in the mid 1960s. His father began work as a manager at a grocery store. His mother "Carolyn" was pregnant with his little sister Sherise at the time of the move. ![]() Sonny's parents were very musical. His mother was a wonderful singer and played the guitar. His father played the saxophone. His mother loved Hollywood. As a child, her father took her to see all the latest films. She can still remember those magical days in front of the silver screen. As she got older she passed her love for Hollywood to her children. Sonny can remember her singing some of the old songs from her favorite motion pictures.
As sonny grew older he began thinking about show business. Aside from playing football he joined his high school's choir. He was also part of the drama class.
In 1987, after graduating, Sonny joined KORE radio. It was the first station in Oregon's 2nd market, founded in 1927. He was hired at first for his background in basketball. He had worked as the play by play announcer for the local high school at his previous position. Sonny began working a board shift. Later he became the announcer for NWCC basketball. In 1988 Sonny married his wonderful wife Michele. She had just moved up from California. The two were a perfect fit. In 1989 they had their first child, Jennifer . In 1992 their 2nd daughter came along, Little Laurie. Two years later Stephanie was added. Finally in 1999 Shawn was born. In 1999 Sonny's name was suggested to network executives with the national, Family Radio Network, about becoming Operations Manager at KQFE. Part of the national network. They sent a representative up from California and signed Sonny on the spot. His agreement with Family Radio included hosting a Radio program on the network called , (For the Record).
Sonny is now the manager of KYOR in Newport and has been appointed as Area Representative for the international radio network, Family Radio. Sonny also serves as Vice-President on the Board of Directors at Support Christian
Broadcasting. He Recently Rolled out his brand new talk show, 'Starr Talk'. It's focus is classic Hollywood. Each week he plays host to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Plus, Sonny writes a column for The Springfield Beacon, called "Classic Hollywood At A Glance". It touches on classic films with a few fun facts and exciting information.
Finally Sonny is the Studio Head of Sun Star Studios, a working studio which produces (For the Record), on the Family Radio Network and (Starr Talk). Sun Star's Focus is Classic Hollywood. They produce Sun Star At the Movies, a monthly movie review on Classic films. Remember, A large part of the radio programs hosted by our Studio Head, Sonny Starr are available to you FREE!!!! They include interviews with Mickey Rooney, Jane Russell, Margaret O'Brien, and Pat Boone... just to name a few. Plus Sun Star has a music label.
